Explore the Great Mosque of Cordoba
One of the places to learn more about the amazing Arab culture and architecture is the Great Mosque of Cordoba, now the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception of Mary in Cordoba, whose construction began over 1200 years ago.
Today it is one of the structures in all of Spain that best express Arab-Islamic art and Andalusian Gothic and Renaissance architecture. It was declared a Heritage of Cultural Interest and Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO in 1994 and, a little less than 15 years later, it was also included among the twelve Treasures of Spain. It is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful and evocative buildings in the world, as well as being, together with the Alhambra in Granada, the Aljafería in Zaragoza and the Giralda in Seville, one of the most visited monuments in the whole region.
The building was built by Abd al rahman I, on the ruins of the Basilica of San Vincente dating back to the Visigothic period; later it was enlarged by the successive rulers with three great works of reform that now allow us to visit it in all its grandeur. You can rent one of the many holiday homes in Cordoba and enjoy your stay!
